5 Things I Learned in my 20s

I was young, wild and carefree in my 20s and had one motto in life – experience everything at least once in my life with no regret and irrespective of its consequences and repercussions. As I inch closer to turning 30 next year in February, the world went into a lockdown and it gave me ample amount of time for self-reflection, soul-searching and making lifestyle changes to condition my mind as to how I want to shape the next 50yrs of my future life. The following is a list of 5 things/lessons that I learned in my 20s from life:-

1. Restrict your Social Circle

You can have a hundred fair-weather friends but once you identify your core set of five to ten people whom I refer to as “permanents”, that’s enough to sustain a happy and fulfilled life. Of course! Lesser the friends, lesser is the drama.

Oh! I’m a lucky man,

To count on both hands,

The ones I love,

Some folks just have one,

Yeah, others they got none,

Stay with me,

Let’s just breathe

2. It is okay to FAIL!

Whether it’s an exam, a job promotion, a friendship, a relationship or a quarrel with family, it is absolutely OKAY to fail. Life gives you plenty of opportunities and opens new doors every single day to restart again and make things right.

I get knocked down, but I get up again,

You are never gonna keep me down,

We’ll be singing, when we’re winning

3. Pursue Happiness, Money will Follow

I know this is easier said than done because we have responsibilities, bills to pay and goals to achieve. The purpose and meaning of my life is to wake up with a smile and go to bed with a smile. Explore the world, pursue your passion, kick-ass at that corporate job but ensure at the end of the day your reason for smiling is not a paycheque but it’s because you’re genuinely satisfied with what you achieved throughout the day.

Don’t ever let someone tell you that you can’t do something,

You got a dream, you gotta protect it,

When people can’t do something themselves,

They are going to tell you that you can’t do it.

You want something, go get it. Period!

4. FAMILY is everything!

You had a rough childhood or divorced parents or a broken family. But when shit hits the roof, you can always rely on your sibling or parents to rescue you from the blighted darkness of rock bottom and despair. You might not agree with me right now but someday an event or circumstance will lead you to believe that the last man standing next to you is your family only.

Rest your head,

You worry too much,

It’s going to be alright,

When times get rough,

You can fall back on us,

Don’t give up,

Please don’t give up.

5. Find a Life Partner

We all have our different reasons for finding a life partner, maybe loneliness, companionship, true love or just the need to have someone to come back home to. Whatever is your reasoning, find a life partner with a growth mind-set. Don’t let that one heartbreak stop you from searching for “The One” and once you’ve found them, ensure that you treat each day as an adventure and agree to build and grow a lifetime together with good health and pure happiness.

Baby, you’re all that I want,

When you’re lying here in my arms,

I’m finding it hard to believe,

We’re in heaven

  1. This is amazing. I think the fact that you experienced so many things in your 20s...is making you speak like a 40 yr old... years don't mean anything if they have no life in it. Great to read this. Keep going!
